Trust is very important in Professional Relationships. While Employee Referrals are a valuable recruiting tool for any organization, they come with significant risk, as you or your employee may not know enough about the referred party’s past.
Hiring a friend or family member can lead to an expedited hiring process, often without safety nets or company mandated procedures. One 2014 study by Career Builder found that 53% of Resumes included some type of falsified or exaggerated information.
Furthermore, this breach in pre-hiring trust can lead to legal risks– or simply giving a family, friend, or loved one a position they are not qualified for.
It is recommended that you have the applicant’s past verified by conducting a Background Check and Former Employment Verification to learn more about their education and work History.
The Past Employment Verification should Include:
• Employment Dates
• Job Titles
• Rates of Pay
• Nature of the Tasks Performed
• Work Habits — including Conscientiousness, Sense of Responsibility, and Ability to Work With Others
• Whether they would Hire the Individual Again,
